Description

By their nature, compression springs are working on compression, which is applied along their axis. When a force of compression acts upon them, they try to resist and turn back in their initial position. The spring is the only mechanical detail of almost any mechanism, able to change its original dimensions and restore them after an axial load along its body is no more applied. Therefore, when enough load is put on them in a way that all adjacent coils get into contact, compression springs act efficiently as an energy storage detail.

In their most common type, compression springs represent helical cylindrical details with closed flat plane ends, made of round cross section wire. But compression springs are designed to correspond to different requirements. Therefore, they can be also found in different shapes and configurations – concave or convex compression springs, conical compression springs with constant or variable pitch, compression springs hourglass or barrel type. It is also possible to produce those springs from wires of non circular cross section, but from square, rectangular or elliptical wires.

Compression springs can be found in a large variety of applications such as automotive engines and shock-absorbers, large stamping presses, major appliances, lawn mowers, garden tools, medical and electronic devices, weapons.

For an adequate quotation we need to consider several key parameters:

  • Outer Diameter (Da /De) and/or Inner Diameter (Di);
  • Wire Diameter (d /dr);
  • Direction of winding;
  • Number of work coils (N/n/if);
  • Total number of coils (Nt/ig);
  • Pitch – the distance center-center between two adjacent coils (t);
  • Free Length (Lo);
  • Solid Height (length of the spring under push mode);
  • Treatment of springs’ ends – closed and grinded or not;
  • Forces in N/mm the compression spring is planned to resist to;
  • Wire quality (stainless or carbon steel + standard);
  • Finishing spring treatment (galvanization, oxydization, powder coating, phosphating, DELTA MKS, shot blasting, deburring).

Submit us with those key parameters mentioned above, a drawing or a sample and we will provide you with a pricing for a single spring or millions of them.
